Bachelor of Dental Surgery, or BDS, is the qualifying degree for dentistry in Pakistan. It runs for four years and is followed by a one-year house job. Admission to both public and private dental colleges is based on FSc Pre-Medical marks and the MDCAT entry test.
Eligibility
- FSc Pre-Medical or an equivalent qualification
- MDCAT - the Medical and Dental College Admission Test
What you study
The first two years cover anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and general pathology alongside dental materials. The clinical years cover oral medicine, oral surgery, periodontology, orthodontics, prosthodontics and operative dentistry, with supervised patient work.
After the degree
A house year is required, after which graduates practise in hospitals, private clinics or continue into specialisation. Fees at private dental colleges are among the highest of any programme in Pakistan - see the fee structures and confirm current figures with the college.
